Data Processing and Visualization

In this two-day sprint, students turn raw data into meaningful insights. Day 1 builds the foundation: an interactive primer on data pipelines, big-data storage, cleaning, and exploratory analysis, followed by a coding lab where campers transform their own data files into charts and summary tables. A “Make Food Not Waste” demonstration connects analytics to real-world sustainability decisions. Day 2 takes the class off campus to Planted Detroit, a commercial vertical farm, where they see advanced technologies in action. The afternoon ends back at WSU with a VR-greenhouse and hydroponics lab tour, reinforcing how immersive technology can surface data stories for growers. By the close of Module 03, every team has a cleaned, annotated dataset ready for the machine-learning work that follows.
